Portmuck and Isle of Muck

Portmuck is accessed via a steep, twisting road at the northern end of Islandmagee. There is a car park by the harbour. Access is not permitted to Muck Island, which is an Ulster Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve.

A footpath at the harbour leads to a vantage point at the top of the cliffs, which provides a wonderful panoramic view across the North Channel. Sections of the east Antrim and Scottish coasts frame the view and with binoculars the Maidens can be seen in detail. Muck Island lies just offshore. Birds that can be spotted include common guillemot, razorbill and kittiwake, northern fulmar, black guillemot and cormorant. This is also a great location to glimpse dolphin and harbour porpoise.
