Toome Linear Park is a 2km long walk to the shores of Lough Neagh. The Lower Bann is the only river to drain out of Lough Neagh here at Toome, where it makes its way to the Altantic near Castlerock. The Lower Bann is the river that the Eel enters Lough Neagh after travelling on the Gulf Stream across the Atlantic. The Eel stays in Lough Neagh for about eight years and changes from brown to silver-black in colour. At this stage, they leave Lough Neagh on journey back 4,000 miles to their Sargasso Sea spawning grounds.
The path leads to the shores of Lough Neagh where you can get a panoramic view across Lough Neagh. Look out for some of the Lough Neagh wetland bird species in the sheltered bay at the end of the pathway. There is a small area of wet woodland with a pathway running through it. In the spring Meadowsweet, Yellow Flag Iris, Dragonflies and Damselflies.
