An exciting new initiative, called the Biodiversity Games project, is being run across Newry, Mourne and Down District Council areas.
This is a recording project which is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, ‘Your Heritage’ Programme in partnership with seven other Biodiversity Officers which aims to get people involved in helping their local biodiversity by ‘getting them recording’.’
A series of events have been held to get people involved in recording their local biodiversity and also to give them the skills they need to identify and record their local wildlife. Events so far have included garden recording days at Rowallane and Dunnywater, butterfly events at Kilbroney and the Quoile and bat walks at the Fairy Glen and Castlewellan.
During 2013, a similar series of events have been planned as part of this project (venues to be confirmed).
Events include:
- A beetle and ladybird ID training event on 15th June
- Big butterfly Count events and walks on 2nd and 3rd August
- National moth nights on 8th and 9th August
- Bat Walks on 22nd and 23rd August
