Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Lisburn Wildlife Watch and Lagan Valley Regional Park Plant Wildflowers in McIlroy Park, Lisburn.

The Wildflower project was completed in partnership with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Lagan Valley Regional Park along with children from the Lisburn Wildlife Watch, a junior branch of Ulster Wildlife. Everyone was delighted to come together to be involved in the planting of wildflowers to enhance biodiversity in McIlroy Park, Lisburn.

Lisburn Wildlife Watch received grant funding in 2016 from the Captain Planet Foundation.

The Foundation aims to give the next generation of environmental champions an active understanding and love of the natural world in which they live.

Lisburn Wildlife Watch is one of many groups from across the UK, which is run by volunteer leaders, enabling children to get involved and explore local wildlife.

Lagan Valley Regional Park also provided wildflower seed which was supported through partnership funding.

Wildflowers are worth preserving in their own right, but they also provide food and homes for wildlife. Planting wildflowers helps reverse the trend of habitat loss and benefits local biodiversity.
